Pain in or around the cervical spine — below your head and around the shoulders — is one of the most common spinal complaints, often linked to a slip disc in the neck or upper back.
Symptoms
Neck pain is one of the most common symptoms associated with a slip disc in the cervical spine (neck and upper back). Pain can radiate along the course of the affected nerve into the shoulders, arms, hands and fingers.
Symptoms vary depending on the type, cause and location of the underlying condition.
Mild to severe pain in the neck, upper back, shoulder, hands and fingers
Difficulty or increasing pain with lifting and bending
Worsening pain when resting, sitting, walking or standing
Neck pain that comes and goes intermittently
Morning stiffness and pain that may increase or reduce with movement
Pain radiating from the neck and upper back down to the hands and fingers (one or both sides)
Dizziness or vertigo triggered by movement or change of position
Tingling, numbness, burning, weakness or imbalance in the hands and fingers
